Dr. Calvin Law serves as Vice President Education, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Calvin Law is a passionate educator, having received accolades for education from the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. He has been recognized for over 25 years, having received his first teaching award in 1999 and his most recent in 2025. These awards are highlighted by the Canadian Association of General Surgery Resident Teaching Award, the Bruce Tovee Surgical Teaching Award, the Robert Mustard Mentorship Award, the David McCready Clinical Teaching Award and the Nicholas Colapinto Teaching Award. He has also served a term as an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Law is also an experienced healthcare leader having served major leadership roles including Chief of the Odette Cancer Program, Sunnybrook Health Sciences, Regional Vice President - Ontario Health, Regional Lead - Surgical Oncology - Cancer Care Ontario, Site Chair, Gastrointestinal Oncology, Odette Cancer Centre and co-founder of the Susan Leslie Clinic for Neuroendocrine Tumours.
From an academic point of view, Dr. Calvin Law is a Full Professor at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He has served as an Affiliate Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute and as an Adjunct Scientist for the Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences. He was the inaugural holder of the Sherif and Mary Lou Hanna Research Chair in Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto. He has also completed a term as a Career Scientist, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care of Ontario. He has authored or collaborated over 200 scientific publications.
Dr. Law’s training includes an MD from the University of Toronto, General Surgery from McMaster University, Hepato-Pancreatic Biliary Surgical Oncology from the University of Toronto, Advanced Health Leadership Certification from the Rotman School of Management, and an Master of Public Health from Harvard University.
